Public Art Fund Talks at The New School with Cory Arcangel

6:30 p.m.

Media artist Cory Arcangel gives the final talk of the series. Arcangel creates unconventional artwork by hacking, repurposing, and manipulating various technologies, including video games, web software, and digital prints. His work showcases elements of beauty and humor within digital applications and equipment, while commenting on the role of technological media in our lives. In addition to selling and exhibiting his work in galleries and museums, many of his projects are publicly accessible online, and he often includes DIY instructions for replicating them on his website.Cory Arcangel was born in Buffalo, New York, in 1978. He lives and works in Brooklyn. He received a Bachelor of Music from the Oberlin Conservatory of Music (2000). He has had recent solo exhibitions at Team Gallery, New York (2008) and Northern Gallery for Contemporary Art, Sunderland, UK (2007); recent performances at the New Museum, New York (2008) and the Sundance Film Festival, Park City (2008). He has upcoming exhibitions at the University of Michigan Museum of Art, Ann Arbor (December 2009); and Montevideo, Amsterdam (August 2009). Now in its 14th year, Public Art Fund Talks is an ongoing series of presentations and discussions led by some of today's most influential artists, critics, and curators. Topics include emerging art trends, the shifting focus of artists engaged with public issues, and cultural issues confronting curators in an international art world.  Presented by the Public Art Fund in association with the Vera List Center for Art and Politics at The New School.
