Carrie NealAcademic Advisor
Profile:My primary role with students of the Tishman Environmental Design Center is as an advisor, a role I fulfill with Parsons Foundation BA/BFA and IDC students. I also support the Student Senate and am the coordinator of the designFUTURES Professional Development series.
Prior to joining The New School, I worked as a Residential Coordinator and the Co-Director of Campus Wellness Outreach at Purchase College, where I managed events planning and production, theater, as well as taught courses as an adjunct professor. I have been involved in community health forums in the capacity director of “Magic To Do Workshops”, a therapeutic theater program for developmentally disabled teens and adults and as the Director of After-school Programs for The Guidance Center in New Rochelle NY.
Beyond my role of academic advisor, I define myself as an educator and artist. My interests, research and professional experience lie in identity development, holistic wellness and leadership development.
As an artist I classify myself as a book maker and a video artist, but my story starts with dance performance and theater design. My current work revolves around art as social practice and the revelation of non-fiction narrative through kinesthetic experience. I am a member of these organizations: National Academic Advising Association; ACPA-College Student Educators International; College Student Personnel Association. I am the Co-Director of Alive Productions/ NorthFeather Design, an environmental installation and multimedia performance company.
I have studied Media Theory and Production, Art Education and Learning Differences and Design. I am interested in the innovations and interventions that environmentally focused scientists, policy makers and designers can have on this ever urbanizing global culture.
