Applying for an I-20 for the New School ESL Program
Please Note: The New School ESL program is for students starting at the intermediate level.
Please pay careful attention to application deadlines below!
1. You need the English as a Second Language Application form.
- Pick up the application form or request from the English Language Studies office or the New School Admissions Office (addresses below).
2. Your English level must be approved for acceptance to our program.
- If you are applying from abroad or outside the local area: Return completed ESL Application (with required writing sample for level approval) to New School Admissions Office.
- If you are in the New York City area: Contact the English Language Studies Office to schedule a placement test. You need to take the placement test to get level approval.
- If you are accepted, you will receive an official acceptance letter from New School Admissions and information on how to apply for an I-20 or transfer your I-20. (Note: You can only register for classes after you've received this acceptance letter).

Deadlines for Application
For people applying from abroad, the deadline is approximately eight weeks before the start of class.
