How to Register for ESL Courses

Required Placement Advising: Students must take a placement test and receive permission from an English Language Studies advisor to enter any ESL course. To schedule a placement test in our office at 68 Fifth Ave., call 212.229.5372. After completing the one-hour test, you can meet with an advisor to determine your level and plan your courses.

Once your courses have been approved by the English Language Studies department, you can go across the street to register. No further admission process is required.

International students requiring an I-20 visa from The New School should see the instructions.
