The New School Distinguished University Teaching Award 2008
Call for Nominations

Students and faculty are invited to nominate outstanding faculty for this year’s Distinguished University Teaching Excellence Award, an award that represents The New School’s commitment to excellence in teaching.  Awardees selected from the pool of nominees will be notified by early May 2008, and will formally receive their awards at a presentation during convocation in September 2008.

Deadline for Receipt of Nominations

Friday, February, 29, 2008

Eligibility

Faculty members who have taught at The New School for at least four semesters (and who are available to receive the award at the Fall 2008 Convocation) are eligible for nomination.

Nominations Must Include the Following Information:

  • Name of faculty member being nominated
  • Name of person making the nomination, including division/school contact information
  • Explanation as to why the nominee merits the award using the criteria below as guidelines (maximum length of 500 words)

Criteria

Impact and involvement with students through:

  • Enthusiasm
  • Knowledge of the subject
  • Ability to present material
  • Support, encouragement and inspiration
  • Accessibility within and beyond the classroom
  • Guidance of student projects
  • Responsiveness to a diverse student body
  • Receptiveness to different learning styles and approaches
  • Involving students in community-based learning

Impact on colleagues and The New School through:

  • Continuous growth in the field
  • Ongoing professional development as a teacher
  • Advocating for quality teaching
  • Participating with colleagues to further student learning
  • Willingness to work inter-divisionally
  • Support of multidisciplinary approaches to subject matter
