The New School for Drama currently has a number of opportunities to showcase the work of our actors, directors, and playwrights:
The New School for Drama presents an annual Actor Showcase each spring, providing graduating actors with a formal introduction to agent and casting professionals. A Face Book brochure with each graduating actor’s headshot and contact information is distributed to over 800 agents, managers and casting directors in the weeks before the event, as well as in an online posting of their headshots and résumés for industry review. All attending professionals receive an additional Face Book, along with materials requesting follow-up from the actors. In past years, students received requests from Amerfilm Casting, Atlas Talent Agency, Binder Casting, Barry-Haft-Brown Talent Agency, Hartig Hilepo Agency, Innovative Talent, Warner Brothers Television & Film Casting, Abrams Artists Agency, William Morris Agency, Independent Artists Agency, Telsey + Company, Don Buchwald and Associates, The Mine, Paradigm, RadioActive Talent, Stuart Howard Associates, Lincoln Center Theatre, ABC Television Casting, Todd Thaler Casting, CESD, Fifi Oscard Agency, Innovative Artists, DDO Artists Agency, Atlantic Theater Company, Henderson/Hogan, and many others.
NEW VISIONS Directing Festival
In the fall semester, The New School for Drama presents The Directors’ Play Festival, featuring presentations of full-length classic and contemporary works, performed in a repertory setting. These director-driven productions highlight the talents of our graduating directors and actors, providing an introduction to each director’s work and aesthetic, as well as presenting an industry opportunity for the graduating actors. All industry guests will receive a packet featuring the performance director’s biography and résumé, as well as the headshots and résumés of the performing actors. In addition, each director’s résumé will be posted online as a link alongside their production information. The Office of Career Development will facilitate industry invitations and networking opportunities with artistic directors and associates, and encourages the students to take advantage of their established contacts and networks to advance this opportunity.
NEW VOICES Playwrights Festival
Each spring semester, the work of our graduating playwrights is showcased in a repertory of new plays, directed by the graduating directors and featuring the graduating actors. Prior to the beginning of the production series, the playwrights are also informally introduced to an invited audience of literary agents, managers, and producers in the Playwright Introduction Evening, where excerpts of their plays are presented in a staged reading format, followed by a meet & greet networking reception; industry guests also receives a packet with each playwright’s biography and résumé, as well as a CD with all the plays being presented in the series for their consideration. In addition, excerpts of the plays being presented will be posted online as a link alongside their production information. As with all of Drama’s showcase experiences, the Office of Career Development will facilitate invitations and networking opportunities with the appropriate industry professionals, and encourages the students to take advantage of their established contacts and networks to advance this opportunity.
