Profile:

Jean Taylor teaches theatrical clown for the Drama School. Ms. Taylor (Performer/Teaching Artist) has been a teaching artist for Lincoln Center Institute for the Arts in Education for over fifteen years. She is also a teaching artist for The Flynn Center for the Performing Arts in Vermont where she served as Associate Director of Education for two years, launching their new community arts program. She continues to teach theatrical clown for The Barrow Group Theatre in NYC and has been a guest teacher in clown at Marymount College, the Stella Adler Conservatory, and Fordham University, among others. Jean's approach to theatrical clown work as it relates to actor training was published in "Movement for Actors", Allworth Press, 2002.

As a performer, Jean completed a successful tour of Snatches, an original play based on the verbatim transcripts between Monica Lewinsky and Linda Tripp, to The Edinburgh Fringe Festival and London's New End Theatre. It was also presented on BBC Radio in England and New Zealand in 2004-5. She has also worked in regional theaters.

Jean is currently collaborating with director, Robin Fawcett on Wild Hair, a solo theatre piece, which will premiere at Vermont's Flynn Center in April 2006. Other original work includes Fatesplay, Be an Animal/Don't Be an Animal, Nostalgia, included in the Chekhov Now Festival, and Everything We Know So Far, which won a Los Angeles Dramalogue Award.

Jean holds a B.A. in Theatre from the University of Denver, studied Dance and Choreography at California Institute of the Arts, is a Certified Teacher of the Alexander Technique and holds an M.F.A. in Directing from Brooklyn College. She has studied clown with Philippe Gaulier, Jaques Le Coq, David Shiner, Ronlin Foreman, and Christopher Bayes. She is a member of the Teaching Artist Journal's Editorial Board.
