Profile:
Nova Thomas is an internationally acclaimed opera singer whose work is consistently characterized as "ravishing in sound and magical in stage appearance" (OPERA, London). Ms. Thomas has distinguished herself in a variety of roles, including Violetta in La Traviata, Leonora in Il Trovatore, Mimì in La Bohème, Desdemona in Otello, Lady Macbeth in Macbeth, all four heroines of Les Contes d'Hoffman, and the title roles of Madama Butterfly, Norma, Anna Bolena, Tosca, Aida, and Turandot. Her performances have taken her to the opera houses of Cologne, Hamburg, Stuttgart, Paris, Hong Kong, Dublin, Belfast, Santa Fe, New York City, Seattle, San Diego, Baltimore, Detroit, Philadelphia, St. Louis, Indianapolis, and others. She has recorded the title role of The Bohemian Girl for DECCA records. Ms. Thomas has been with The New School for Drama since its first year. During that tenure she has co-authored and developed a three-year curriculum of voice and speech training uniquely designed to parallel and partner the Stanislavski-inspired system of training core to the Drama School's mission. She is a frequent master class teacher, guest lecturer, and public speaker. Ms. Thomas serves on the National Board of Directors for the General H. Hugh Shelton Leadership Initiative, as well as several national scholarship committees. She is a recipient of the The New School's Excellence in Teaching Award, and the winner of a Lifetime Achievement Award from her home state of North Carolina for her contributions to the arts.
