The Graduate Certificate in Documentary Media Studies is a one-year, full-time, graduate-level program for students who want to pursue a career in the field of documentary video or film. The program offers small classes and intensive studies in documentary history, theory, and practice.
Working with a small crew, each student researches, produces, directs, and edits an original short documentary in New York City. Most work is showcased in the annual Truth Be Told Documentary Film Festival. Upon completion of the certificate, students are prepared to enter professional careers as: documentary producers, directors, editors, researchers, media programmers, curators, archivists or distributors; or they may choose to further their studies. Many students apply for the MA in Media Studies, and they can transfer certificate credits providing they have earned grades of B or better.
The program, which begins each fall and continues until the end of May, includes the following classes:
- New Student Reel
- Past Student Reel
