Manijeh Najm Eraghi and Dr. Fariborz Rais Dana

Two academics and members of the Iranian Writers Association (IWA), Manijeh Najm Eraghi and Dr. Fariborz Rais Dana, were arrested on June 3, 2012, and May 21, 2012, respectively. Both were charged with membership in the IWA, a group that promotes writers’ rights in Iran, and sentenced to one year in prison. Eraghi serves as the secretary for the IWA and specializes in translating academic works from English to Farsi, focusing primarily on feminist theory and women’s rights. Dr. Rais Dana is an economist, a board member of the IWA, and an outspoken critic of Iranian economic policy.
