Spoken by some 400 million people in the world, Russian is considered one of the five most influential world languages. Beyond its use in the Russian Republic, Ukraine, Central Asia, and the Caucasus region, Russian is spoken by a large and vibrant community in the metropolitan New York area.
The New School offers introductory and intermediate courses in speaking, reading, and writing Russian with discussion of aspects of Russian culture. Whether you are just starting your studies or have some knowledge of the language, we offer courses that will help you improve your communication skills and cultural understanding.
Russian is taught at a variety of levels throughout the academic year. Visit the website starting in July for a list of fall Russian course offerings. If you are unsure about your level, take a self-placement exam to determine where you should start. To obtain a Russian placement exam, contact the Department of Foreign Languages at firstname.lastname@example.org.
