The 14th-century writings of Dante Alighieri are the basis of the standard Italian language used today. The New School offers a range of courses on Italian language and culture every fall, spring, and summer term, with emphasis on the spoken language. In addition to courses for beginning, intermediate, and advanced students seeking conversation skills, we offer courses for those interested in high-level reading and discussion.
If you would like to study Italian but have limited time during the week, stop by The New School for a two-weekend immersion On the Go course.
Visit the registration website for a list of current course offerings in Italian and other languages. If you are unsure about your level, take a self-placement exam to determine where you should start. To obtain an Italian placement exam, contact the Department of Foreign Languages at firstname.lastname@example.org.
