Pelin Tan is an Istanbul-based
Turkish urbanist. Her practice engages artistic and architectural projects that
focus on conflict and territorial politics, gift economy, the condition of
labor and mixed methods in research. As a sociologist and art
historian, Pelin Tan embraces questions of how to counter our contemporary
hegemonic crises of neoliberal urbanization by organizing and sustaining a
practice of the commons, where alternative forms of solidarity are found
against the backdrop of alternative micro movements. Pelin's work as an
urbanist is influenced by her main research area in contemporary art
practices since the 1990s, including social and political issues related
to contemporary artworks.
