The
Global Clearinghouse
The Global Clearinghouse
is a lead initiative in support of the United Nations Monterrey
Consensus, an historic UN agreement in which all UN countries, civil
society, and business are cooperating to enhance the quantity and
quality of financing for development. This UN initiative represents
a critical political opening as all UN member states have agreed
that mobilizing private sector investment for development is critical,
and on the importance of improving communication, information, and
consultation mechanisms as well as risk mitigation techniques.
With the support
of the Ford Foundation and the Norwegian and Swiss governments,
the Clearinghouse team has developed three practical information
and communication tools to implement the Monterrey Consensus:
- The Clearinghouse
Information Portal -- a one stop internet portal serving as
a global public good freely available for investors, policy
makers, and the general public
- Government-Investor
Networks -- an intranet service for governments wishing to coordinate
directly with investors in identifying investment impediments
and possible remedies
- The Infrastructure
Experts Group -- an intranet platform for experts from across
the public and private sectors to develop risk mitigation techniques
for increasing infrastructure investment
Thanks to
the dedicated work of New School graduate students, the Information
Portal now has links to nearly 30,000 individual content items
categorized in 120 categories on 160 developing countries. The
results of the Global Clearinghouse work will be presented at
the General Assembly Financing for Development meetings in the
fall of 2005 for possible adoption of UN countries and further
development.

Portal can be accessed at:
