CEPA Research Projects International Capital Markets and the Future of Economic Policy The Project on International Capital Markets and the Future of Economic Policy is led by John Eatwell of the University of Cambridge and Lance Taylor of CEPA. The project examines the liberalization of international capital markets in the past two decades and its effects on economic policy and productive activity. The nature of these changes and their impact on growth, employment, and the distribution of income are often the subject of optimistic assertions, but concrete evidence is hard to find. The project attempts to establish a new policy framework to evaluate these changes, involving empirical analyses of the new relationships in and between advanced economies, emerging markets, and the developing world. Following a conference at the University of Cambridge in April 1998, CEPA launched a series of Working Papers on International Capital Markets and the Future of Economic Policy. On September 17, 1999, Eatwell and Taylor presented their proposals for institutional and policy changes at a media briefing sponsored by the Economic Policy Institute (EPI) in Washington, DC. A related project, The World Financial Authority, led to the publication of the book Global Finance at Risk: The Case for International Regulation by John Eatwell and Lance Taylor (The New Press, 1999).
