The European Union Center
of New York (EUCNY) has been established to advance the broader goals of
the European Union in several important respects:
To
develop 'people to people' links
The EUCNY is developing a Transatlantic University Dialogue between our universities and those in EU member states that will parallel existing dialogues in business, labor, and civil society. Our institutions are individually and jointly involved in a myriad of programs specifically designed to foster contacts between American and European scholars. The EUCNY adds value by building on existing programs and encouraging people-to-people links through exchanges of scholars, students, interactive video-conferences, and 'virtual' workshops and classes.
To
promote interdisciplinary cooperation
Many leading Europeanists in the U.S. are faculty members at one of the EUCNY institutions. By providing an institutional framework, the EUCNY intensifies and fosters cooperation in research and teaching. The Center serves as a bridge both between partner institutions and among their respective departments and professional schools.
To
increase awareness of the importance
Situated in the world's leading
financial, commercial, diplomatic, and artistic center, the EUCNY engages
in an extensive program of outreach to the university community, opinion
leaders, and the general public in the New York region to promote greater
understanding of the EU. The EUCNY is both a tangible expression of the
importance of the transatlantic relationship and an instrument which focuses
further attention on that relationship as it develops politically, legally,
economically, and culturally.
