Media Research in the Internet
Kinga Czuczor (Hungary)
- Print Media
If you are looking for media in a sense of reading news from various
newspapers, for example from Hungary on the web sites: http://www.hungary.com,
where I could find Hungarian or even American organizations, publishing
companies, reporting on news, events, conferences, etc.
I was also using the web pages of daily newspapers and media organizations,
like the web pages of the New York Times http://www.nytimes. com
or the web site of the "Thinktank" program of the PBS
television http://www.thinktank.com
Updated information and archive documents are also available on
the web pages of these media organizations.
- Media Theory
I did research related to the media also in a sense of media theories.
Debates, disputes, conferences, publications, articles and interactive
discussions about different "Points of View", past and
upcoming events. The web pages: http://www.media.mit.edu
is called a Media Lab, and as the subtitles indicate, it contains
- Information, Research (pointers to research groups and projects
in the Lab), New and Noteworthy (new and especially interesting
things to be found on the Media lab server, on-line projects of
the Lab), Related Servers, etc.
- 1996 U.S. Presidential Campaign
Another field of my research focused on the 1996 Presidential
Campaign. The web site:http://www.electionline.com
can serve as a leading source of information on the presidential
election, it offers updated details on the election race (issues,
candidates, schedules).
The web sitehttp://www.vote-smart.org/campaign_96/presidential/path.html
covers the Schedules of Campaign Appearances, Election News (ABC
News, The Washington Post & Newsweek, CBS News, CNN/Time,
NBC News and MSN, National journal & the American Political
Network, USA Today, US News & World Report). There is also
introductory Information (on the US Government, on the background
on the American Political Process), Campaign Tactics and Strategy,
Political Polling (survey research and related nformation, election
monitor, gallop polls), The Inauguration, discussions concerning:
"Funding A Campaign", etc. From the project "Vote
Smart" we can also get details on particular candidates listed
by parties.
In preparation for the 1996 presidential Voting Season 'Internet
Publishing Technologies' is providing a collection of candidate
information and links to various government and party related
sites throughout the web: http://www.ipt.com/vote/.
Besides the global information on the 1996 presidential campaign,
the presidential candidates introduced a new way of public relation:
the official web sites of the candidates. For example the official
home page of the Republican candidate Pat Buchanan is:http://www.buchanan.org
or of Steve Forbes:http://www.forbes96.com.
These home pages contain the biography, program, schedule and
speech descriptions of the particular candidate, including press
releases, news articles and discussions relating to the candidate.
