If you are a student, by submitting your resume to any service including Career Successlink, the On-Campus Recruiting program, any Resume Book, you are authorizing the Center for Student Success - Careers to forward your resume to selected employer partners. For your privacy and protection when applying to a job online, never give your social security number to a prospective employer, provide credit card or bank account information, or perform any sort of monetary transaction. In addition, be sure to practice sound judgment when meeting employers, and ensure the meeting location is safe and professional. To assist you with building your professional skills it should be understood that when you use the services provided by the Center for Student Success - Careers you must adhere to the following honor code. Violations of this honor code are highly unprofessional and will remain in your record.
Phones are to be turned off during sessions with counselors/advisers. Answering a call and/or texting takes time away from the appointment. Counselor/adviser has the right to end the session immediately should this occur if it is not an urgent matter.
Resumes and cover letters should be printed and in-hand at time of appointment. Resumes and cover letters will not be reviewed and/or edited when brought into session on the counselor/adviser’s computer or on your personal technology device. Administrative personnel will not print copies of your resumes and cover letters.
Cancellations of on-campus interviews must be made no less than four business days prior to the scheduled interview date. If a cancellation is received within four business days or are a no-show, student’s On-Campus Recruiting access will be immediately suspended. If you would like to appeal, please call the Center for Student Success - Careers 212.229.1324 to schedule an in-person appointment to discuss your situation.
Choosing and attaining meaningful employment is an important challenge for college students. The National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE)’s Principles for Professional Practice provides guidelines for that process to guarantee a recruitment process that is fair and equitable to students and employers alike.
If you violate the terms of service or otherwise behave, in writing or in person, in a manner that jeopardizes New School’s reputation with employers, you will lose Career Successlink privileges and be required to meet with the Director of Career Success.
I accept that failure to adhere to any of the above points may result in the removal of my Center for Student Success - Careers privileges, including access to Career Successlink, On-Campus Recruiting jobs, career fairs and career counseling appointments.
The Center for Student Success - Careers encourages students to pursue experiential learning opportunities throughout their time at The New School. We work diligently to ensure that students engage in productive, meaningful work, and require that employers abide by certain standards set by both the National Association of Colleges and Employers and the Department of Labor. However, it is also important that you consider the following before you accept a position with an employer.
The Center for Student Success - Careers makes every effort to screen employers and job postings on Career Successlink. However, if you receive a suspicious email or phone message from an employer, it is extremely important to exercise caution. If you feel uncomfortable about a job opportunity you receive by email or find on any job board, do not click on any links and do not provide any personal information.
If you are suspicious of a posting or email, end all communication with the employer and contact the Center for Student Success - Careers 212.229.1324. If the incident occurred completely over the Internet, you can file an incident report with the Federal Trade Commission by calling the FTC at: 1-877-FTC-HELP (1-877-382-4357).
Once you are hired, if you have any concerns about the legitimacy of the company or believe the work environment to be unsafe, contact the Department of Labor.
If you are, then it is strongly encouraged that you speak to a member at the Office of International Student Services regarding work authorization in the United States.
