Up to 84 credits may be transferred for courses completed at a regionally-accredited college or university. Of those, no more than 60 may be for lower-level coursework. To be accepted for transfer, the credits must have been earned in courses consistent with the mission of the New School Bachelor's Program and for which grades of C or better were awarded.
Official transcripts must be provided from every college or university attended at the time of application. For students who have attended a college or university outside of the United States, an official credential evaluation must be completed. Our recommended provider is World Education Services, but any NACES member organization may be used. Please be sure to request a "course-by-course/comprehensive" evaluation.
Our admission counselors are available to assess your prior credits and give a preliminary transfer credit evaluation. Please call 212.229.5150 or 800.292.3040 to schedule a meeting with an admission counselor.
Other Credit for Prior Learning
Students who can demonstrate proficiency in a specific subject area (for which no transfer credit has been awarded from previous college/university study) may be eligible to receive college credit. This can only be explored, however, after a student has matriculated into the Bachelor's Program. For more information, visit the Credit for Prior Learning page.
Transfer Agreements
The New School has formal agreements with affiliated institutions that facilitate and simplify the transfer process. When graduates of these schools who meet all the criteria listed in the articulation agreement are admitted to the New School Bachelor's Program, the articulation agreement specifies the number of transfer credits applied towards the bachelor's degree at The New School. If you are or have been a student at one of these schools, contact The New School Office of Admission or your school's transfer counseling office for details.
Articulation Agreements are currently in place with:
- American Musical and Dramatic Academy (AMDA)
- Borough of Manhattan Community College
- Brookdale Community College
- Dutchess Community College
- International Culinary Center
- Ivy Bridge College of Tiffin University
- LaGuardia Community College
- New York Film Academy (NYFA)
- Sullivan County Community College
