The magazine consists of new work by students currently enrolled in the Riggio Honors Program: Writing and Democracy; a work of art from the Spring 1949 issue appears on the inside cover.

David Lehman to Receive Honorary Degree

Writing Faculty Member Publishes New Book

Brett Berk, a part-time faculty member in the Writing Program at The New School, published a humorous nonfiction book, The Gay Uncle’s Guide to Parenting, this month. In writing his book, Berk drew on his 20 years of experience working with young kids and families to provide a unique outsider’s perspective on raising children.

Premiere of The Invention of Minus One, Multimedia Dance Work by New School Student Jonah Bokaer

The Invention of Minus One, a multimedia dance work by award-winning media artist and choreographer Jonah Bokaer, premiered this month at the Abrons Arts Center in New York City. The piece is the result of a year of motion-capture research on the moving bodies of four dancers. The Dance Insider calls Bokaer’s work “well-crafted, cutting-edge choreography that moves dance into the new century.”

Riggo Visiting Professor Honored by French Government

Greil Marcus, the acclaimed Berkeley-based rock critic, cultural historian, and New School visiting professor, was named a Chevalier des Artes et Lettres by the French government. Pierre-Francois Mourier, consul general of France in San Francisco, presented the award to Marcus at a private ceremony on February 11, 2008.
