Julia FoulkesAssociate Professor and Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs
Profile:Julia Foulkes has been at The New School since 1999 teaching and developing curricula in history and urban studies. Dr. Foulkes is the author of Modern Bodies: Dance and American Modernism from Martha Graham to Alvin Ailey (2002), an advisor for the PBS documentary Free to Dance (2001) on the role of African Americans in dance, a recipient of two postdoctoral fellowships, and, most recently, a Scholar-in-Residence at the Rockefeller Archive Center (2005) and a Fulbright Senior Scholar at Potsdam University in Germany (2005-06). Her current research concerns the international dynamics of urbanization and the arts in the post-World War II period, focusing in particular on the development of Lincoln Center and the revitalization of the Brooklyn Academy of Music.
