Nyoka Johnson

Nyoka Johnson, a native of Seattle, Washington, studies photography at Parsons and urban studies at Lang.

Why did you decide to become a BA/BFA student?
I wanted to continue my liberal arts studies and pursue photography. This program allows me to challenge myself in both areas. That’s been the most rewarding part.

Have you had any internships?
I’ve interned in the photo departments of W magazine and Rolling Stone.

Did your internships affect your interest in photography?
Working in commercial photography made me realize that I want to experience the fine art aspect of photography as long as I can!

What interests would you like to pursue after college?
I’m thinking of continuing on to the graduate lighting program at Parsons.

What would you say to a student who is considering becoming a BA/BFA student?
It’s great to have the diversity of both schools. They’re so different, so there’s something refreshing or stimulating about going between both. It’s a strenuous workload, but it’s absolutely worth it.
