Who: Access is available to all degree or credit-seeking students, based on current term enrollment.

Advanced Equipment Center access (HD Camcorders) is available to those enrolled in select programs:

  • Media Studies(Major Code: MED)
  • Documentary Studies (Major Code: DOCS)
  • Parsons School of Art Media and Technology (Major Codes: MTC, DTC, CMD, PS, MFA, MPH, MFR, MTCPS, DT)
  • Eugene Lang (Major Codes: ENS, LAR, LBA, LCM, LDS, LEC, LHS, LLS, LPH, LPS, LUN)
How: Reserved exclusively online via MyNewSchool. Online reservation schedules are current and valid.
Required Lead Time: 48 hours to create, modify or cancel a reservation. This is so the Equipment Center staff has time to properly prepare orders.
Availability: Students may schedule only one reservation at a time, per "location". After your reservation time ends, schedule the next reservation.
Reservation
Length:
One, two, three, or four days for all reservable equipment.
Notification: You will receive an email notification of each reservation. When reserving, be sure to click “Save & Close” and then “OK” in order to confirm your reservation.
Modifying Reservations: You may modify your reservation online up to 48 hours in advance of the reservation start time. This is the only way to change your reservation.
Cancellations: You may delete your reservation online up to 48 hours in advance of the reservation start time. This is the only way to cancel your reservation.
Your Responsibilities:
Reservation Start
  • You should have prior knowledge of the equipment requested. No training is provided. To assist you, there are tip sheets available online and on-site. There is also a nearby testing area where you can practice hands-on.
  • You have the option to decline pick-up for any reason, but you must do so in person. Otherwise, you are logged as a "No Show" and your reservation is voided.
  • You must pick up your equipment in person the first day of your reservation, between 9am and 7:00pm. Reservations not picked up before 7:00pm will be logged as a “No Show” and voided.
  • Bring your New School ID. Your New School photo ID is the only ID accepted.
  • You are fully responsible for all equipment. Check all items and test them thoroughly before signing the contract. If any item is missing or problematic, alert the staff, who will replace it or make a note on the contract.
  • No insurance is provided by the university.
Your Responsibilities:
Reservation End
  • Return all equipment before 7:00pm.
  • You must return equipment in person.
  • Wait while the staff tests the equipment. This may take up to 30 minutes.
  • After testing, the staff member and you will both initial the contract. You may request a copy for your records.
  • Any missing or damaged item is noted and investigated. If investigation determines you are clearly at fault, you will be notified to repair or replace the item(s). Until you do, you will be restricted from making reservations.
In-House Equipment
  • In-house equipment is subject to availability and checked out daily on a first-come, first-served basis. Check with the staff to see what is available.
  • In-house equipment is due back 30 minutes before the Equipment Center closes.
  • Your New School photo ID is required. All fees policies apply.
Fees:
Late equipment return $20/hour or $100/day fee.
Your reservation access will be restricted until all outstanding fines are resolved. Please allow two business days for processing of fine payments.
No Show Not showing for your reservation results in $40 fee per incident.

Damaged Equipment and
Missing items
You are responsible for returning or replacing missing items, and for the cost of repair of damaged equipment. Additionally, a damage fee of $50 or more may apply. Upon repairing or replacing the damaged item or paying the damage fee, your access is restored within two business days.
Payment Submit payment or replacement parts directly to the Equipment Center. Fees may be paid only by personal check, money order or bank check, made payable to The New School.
Hold Resolve any fee or missing or damaged item. If you do not, your Equipment Center access is restricted, and a "hold" is placed on your university student account. A "hold" results in the withholding of grades, registration, diploma and transcript. Upon resolution, the hold will be lifted within two business days.
Special Access
  • Degree or credit-seeking students registered for the current academic term may petition for an exception to standard policies or procedures.
  • Fill out the Special Access Request form.
  • Once you have completed the form and your instructor has approved, they will submit the form to the Equipment Center.
  • Allow 6 business days for follow up by email at which time your request will be approved or denied, based on availability.
