Report on University Finances

The New School’s financial position is strong. Fiscal 2010 financial results reflect a significant rebound from one of the most challenging economic environments in a decade. We carefully monitor the financial markets and our investments, but we also recognize that our outstanding academic offerings and talented applicants represent our core strength. The university’s investment return for the year ended June 30, 2010 compares favorably with the average returns of our peer group and the average of all college and university endowments. More important, the university’s ten-year average return significantly exceeds both averages. We are thankful to the university’s trustees and volunteers who play a major role in producing such excellent financial results through their extraordinary dedication and steady service.

Effective enrollment management and prudent fiscal management enabled The New School to thrive even when the broader economy faltered.
