How do I log into my alumni email account?
Go to http://alumni.newschool.edu (please note that this is not the webmail you see on the New School home page) and enter the username and password provided by the Office of Alumni Relations. If you are a 2006 or 2007 graduate, use the username from your student account and your date of birth (in MMDDYY format) for the password. If you are unable to log in, please contact us
How do I change my password?
Log in to your alumni email account and click on the options box located at the top, center area of the screen underneath the date. The general settings tab is where you will change your password.
Can I have messages forwarded to another account (i.e. Yahoo, Gmail)?
Yes. Using the alumni email account does not require use of Groupwise webmail. To set up an auto-forward, log in to your Groupwise alumni account once, then click on the options box located at the top, center area of the screen underneath the date. Click on the Mailbox Management tab and select "Yes" under "Forward All New Messages." Then enter the email account where you would like to receive your mail in the "Forward to" text box. Click Save at the bottom.
Can I keep my student email account?
Unfortunately, no. Student email accounts will be deactivated within the next semester after graduation. We encourage recent graduates to begin using their alumni email account right away. You can set up an auto-forward in your student account so emails automatically bounce to your alumni account (for the time your student account remains active) and/or set up an auto-reply letting your contacts know they should reach you at your new alumni email address. We recommend you let your contacts know about your new email address as soon as possible, as emails delivered to your student account post-deactivation will not be received.
Can I have messages sent to my student account forwarded to my alumni account?
Yes, but keep in mind that this will only work while your student account is still active. (Students accounts usually deactivate a few months after your degree has been conferred. We will update you on this process before that happens though.) Once the student accounts are deactivated an auto-forward rule from your old account will not work.
How do I move my address book from my student account to my new alumni account?
Unfortunately there isn't an automated way to do this. The best way to transfer contacts from one account to the other is to just enter them manually.
I just graduated. When can I get an alumni account?
2008 graduates will receive their alumni email accounts in the fall of 2008. Until then, continue using your student account. When your alumni account is ready, you will receive an email at your student email address notifying you when it is time to begin the transition to the new account.
What is my new email address?
The alumni email addresses follow the format firstname.lastname@alumni.newschool.edu. In some cases (such as in the case of common names) a middle name will be used. Keep in mind that the name used will be your name as it appears on your academic transcript, which is the name in our alumni records. If you have questions about this, please contact us.
I had already logged into my alumni email account successfully but when I tried to log in a second time, my password didn't work. What's happening?
This seems to be a common problem among Mac users. Possibly, your browser saves coded address locations and if you changed your password after first log in, old address code may have been retained causing the new password to act "defective." Contact the Office of Alumni Relations as we may have to reset your password for you.
Can I receive images in my alumni email account?
Yes, you can receive images, photos, etc. in your alumni account.
What is the mailbox capacity?
Your alumni email account mailbox has a 100MB capacity.
I am using my alumni email account but receiving New School alumni-related email in another account. Why?
In order to reach as many alumni as possible with announcements about alumni events, benefits, and other communication, we will not automatically change the email address on file to your alumni account. We have no way of knowing who is actually checking that account. If you would like your alumni email address to be used by the Office of Alumni Relations as your preferred email, please send us an email (alumni@newschool.edu) and let us know.
