As an alumna/us of The New School, you are entitled to the following benefits:

The University Card
This card, which identifies you as a graduate of The New School, provides free admission and/or discounts to many of our public programs, and grants access to and reading privileges in the Fogelman, Gimbel, and Sherman Libraries, is sent annually to all alumni with a mailing address on file and residing in the United States and U.S. territories. (Alumni not residing in the United States who would like a University Card can obtain one by contacting the Office of Alumni Relations at 212.229.5662 x3784 or alumni@newschool.edu. This year's cards will be mailed in September. If you do not receive one, please contact us.

Public Programs
Our public programs provide opportunities for continued learning and many are free for alumni (with a current University Card). For a full list of upcoming public programs, click here. Also, stay tuned for a new searchable online calendar including events from all across the university.

Libraries
Alumni who have been conferred a degree or certificate from The New School are entitled to reading privileges in campus libraries with a current University Card.  (This does not include NYU’s Bobst.)  Donors of $250 may also borrow materials. Discounts with the University Card
In addition to library privileges and free admission to public programs, the University Card now gets you discounts in the neighborhood and beyond. Following are the deals secured to date. Stay tuned for more!

  • 10% off full-service color copies at Village Copier located at 20 East 13th Street.
  • 15 free minutes of Internet usage with the purchase of 30 minutes at Cyberfields Internet Café located at 20 East 13th Street.
  • 15% off all jobs over $50 and 10% off all other jobs at EtchPrint Inc. EtchPrint is a reprographic company offering digital blueprinting, digital archiving and indexing, black and white and color copying services, and more.   • 10% off artist-in-residence membership at Brooklyn Artists Gym (BAG). BAG is an artist studio and gallery facility in the Park Slope/Gowanus area of Brooklyn, New York. BAG’s mission is to help make it possible for artists to further their work and careers at a reasonable cost.   • 20% off workshops, classes and open art studio rates at Creative Pier. Creative Pier is a new holistic arts center in Union Square (located at 833 Broadway, 3rd Floor), founded by New School alum Routa Segal '07. Creative Pier offers 1,600 square feet of beautiful arts studio space, monthly exhibitions at the Interactive Art Gallery and weekly workshops, which combine meditative, creative, and expressive techniques to promote self-awareness, creativity, and well-being.   • Discounts at 3rd Ward, a multi-disciplinary arts space in East Williamsburg, Brooklyn: Alumni will receive their first month free and get either a complimentary 4-hour session in the photography studio or a complimentary day pass for the wood and metal fabrication shops when they sign up for an annual membership plan ($30/month for a 12-month commitment). The annual membership offers facility rentals at discounted rates and provides access to the digital media lab, free admission to 3rd Ward events, exhibition opportunities, and health insurance through Fractured Atlas. Alumni can also rent the photography studio or purchase passes to the wood and metal fabrication shops at the member rates. Prices are as follows: Photography/Video Studio: $35/hour, $125/4 hours, $225/8 hours Wood & Metal Fabrication Shop Pass: $50 for 1-day pass, $175 for 5-day pass. Alumni Email
Alumni email accounts (first name.last name@alumni.newschool.edu) are available for graduates* of all eight schools of The New School. (Accounts for alumni graduating in May 2006 should be available in October or November 2006. Until then, please continue using your student account, which is where information about your alumni account will arrive.) To request your free account, use the Alumni Email Account Web Request Form. *Please note that alumni email accounts can only be created for alumni who received a degree or credit certificate from The New School. Accounts will not be created for nonconferred alumni or continuing education students.

Plum Benefits
Alumni can save time and money on entertainment in New York City with Plum Benefits. To access Plum Benefits, go to www.plumbenefits.com and sign up for direct access. You must use your alumni email address to access this service (see above). Benefits include: A monthly discount guide including premiere entertainment discounts of up to 50 percent off for Broadway and off-Broadway shows, sporting and dance events, and New York City attractions and a monthly access entertainment guide including access to otherwise difficult-to-get tickets and events and/or specially negotiated VIP seating. Enjoy easy ordering, great seats, no ticket-ordering obligations and helpful customer service.

Gilbert & Sullivan Fest 2008
NY City Center is offering alumni a 25% discount on tickets to four shows, including The Pirates of Penzance, H.M.S. Pinafore, The Mikado, and The Gondoliers. Click here for show times and ticket purchase details.

Cybercamps
Giant Campus is offering New School alumni a discount on Cybercamps, a summer computer and technology program for youth ages 7 - 18. In the week-long programs, kids are taught skills in technology, such as Web design, Flash animation, programming, game design, robotics, and more. Giant Campus also offers a totally customizable camp called livewire at Walt Disney World Resort in Florida, where teens ages 14-18 are immersed in the latest technology, make new friends and create lifelong memories.

Save $50 for the first week of Cybercamp, and $100 off each additional week. These discounts may be combined with any other discounts being offered, so your savings could be more. Discounts can be used at the New School location or any of the other Cybercamps locations.  Save $100 on Livewire at Disney.

Campus Wireless Access
Alumni can now use free wireless access throughout The New School campus.  To log in, just use the username and password from your alumni email account.  If you do not have an alumni email account, please request one using the online form. Newsletters/Magazines
Each of The New School's eight schools have an alumni newsletter or magazine. Alumni news is mailed one to four times each year depending on the school. For possible inclusion in the alumni notes section of the newsletter, please send your news to alumni@newschool.edu.  If you do not currently receive your school newsletter and would like to, please send your name and address to alumni@newschool.edu or call 212.229.5662 x3784. Electronic copies of the newsletters are now available as well. If you would like to receive your newsletter electronically, send an email to alumni@newschool.edu from the email account you would be using to receive the newsletter. MOMA Guest Passes
The New School has a limited supply of guest passes for the Museum of Modern Art that are available for alumni. Each pass is valid for a one-time complimentary general admission for one to the galleries during regular public hours. Alumni can request one pass per person on a first-come, first-served basis. If you would like one of these passes, send your name and preferred mailing address to alumni@newschool.edu.

Reduced Membership in the Oxonian Society
The Oxonian Society is offering alumni of The New School $10 off the basic membership rate (normally $150) for a limited time.

The Oxonian Society is a nonprofit organization that exists to provide its members the ability to directly hear from and interact with leading government, political, business, entertainment, military, legal and religious figures. The society is open to all who share the desire to continue the stimulating educational and cultural environment fostered at Oxford and the world’s great universities.

New School alumni can now enjoy the likes of Conan O'Brien, Jon Stewart, Madeleine Albright, General Richard Myers, former Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Secretary of Homeland Security, the former British Prime Minister, Malcolm Gladwell, Tom Clancy, Moby, Sir Howard Stringer, Chairman and CEO of Sony and A-list speakers in person in the New York tri-state area, as well as access social and networking events. New School alumni have a special relationship with the Oxonian Society, a leading 501(c)3 non-profit, that hosts world leaders in mid-town Manhattan on a regular basis.

Health Insurance
Due to laws in New York State that prohibit health insurance discounts for particular groups, we do not currently offer “alumni discount health insurance.”  However, the Student Services Office has prepared a document to assist alumni who need to purchase health insurance independently. For an electronic copy of this document, click here.
