Eugene Lang College The New School for Liberal Arts offers college students the opportunity to immerse themselves in a four-week, four-credit course in New York City. Intensive hands-on courses are offered in Fiction Writing, Film Studies, Dance, and Journalism + Design.
Parsons The New School for Design offers summer programs in New York and Paris for pre-college, college, and adult learners. Pre-college students can enroll in Summer Intensive Studies New York, Summer Intensive Studies Paris, or Parsons Pre-College Academy. College-age and adult students can sign up for Summer Intensive Studies New York, Summer Intensive Studies Paris, and Summer Studies in Constructed Environments. There are three summer programs for graduate students: Art and Design Education and Leadership in the Arts, both in New York City, and Decorative Arts Graduate Seminar in Paris. Discover the writer's life in New York City. The intensive three-week Writers Colony program provides a supportive yet demanding atmosphere in which to develop as a writer, whether you are launching a new project or developing a work-in-progress. Members of The New School's distinguished faculty guide workshop discussions of students' work and provide their own written feedback. Summer literary salons bring notable writers in for conversations with the students and faculty of the colony.
The New School for Drama now offers an exciting four-week Summer Acting Intensive for students who are either rising juniors or seniors in high school or are at least 15 years of age. Led by professional faculty and teaching artists involved in New York City theater, this program enables students to develop acting techniques and skills through training, coaching, workshops, and artistic engagement in a collaborative environment.
This new pre-college summer intensive course for high school students (rising juniors and seniors) combines 16mm filmmaking craft with high-definition (HD) digital techniques and tools, immersing students in the history and practice of making movies. Taught by School of Media Studies faculty, students gain a critical understanding of how re-imagining the city through multimedia storytelling engages, provokes, delights, and informs audiences. Their artistic and socially engaged short film projects are screened publicly at the end of the course.
The New School Summer Institute for Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) brings educators up-to-date on the latest developments in the field. This two-week, full-time professional development program is taught by The New School's renowned English Language Studies faculty and features a choice of workshops, co-curricular activities, and organized tours and cultural activities in and around New York City.
In addition to the summer programs highlighted above, The New School for Public Engagement, Parsons The New School for Design, and the extension program of Mannes College The New School for Music offer open-enrollment continuing education courses each summer in a wide range of subject areas, including Social Sciences, Humanities, Media Studies and Film, Writing, Foreign Languages, English Language Studies, Management and Business, Food Studies, Art and Design, and Music.
