Scheduled and Walk-in Conferences
Students may schedule 50-minute conferences for themselves, one at a time. In addition to scheduled conferences, tutors are also available on a walk-in basis to serve students during the Center’s regular hours, Monday–Friday, 10:00 a.m.–6:00 p.m
At the end of a conference, the tutor will fill out a Confirmation of Conference form if requested by the student. The tutor will provide a general description of the session, and document the suggestions made for the student’s next steps. Faculty members who require their students to work with the University Writing Center often ask to receive a copy of this form.
Making an Appointment Using the Internet
Students can create, modify, and delete their appointments online using their Banner ID numbers; use of your New School GroupWise email account is also required. Students can only have one self-scheduled appointment at a time in the e-scheduler. After completion of one appointment a student may schedule another.
Cancellations and “No-Shows”
If a student cancels an appointment less than 3 hours in advance or is more than 10 minutes late it is considered a "No-show." Students with 3 or more "No-shows" in a semester forfeit the privilege of making appointments, and are only permitted to use the walk-in service for the remainder of the semester.
Two-Hour and Recurring Appointments
Two-hour and recurring appointments cannot be made via the e-scheduler. To request such appointments, email us, call 212.229.5121, or stop by our office at 71 Fifth Avenue, 9th fl.
The University Writing Center offers telephone conferences for students who are unable to come to the Center. When using the e-scheduler to make a telephone conference, a "ph" must appear before the first and last name in the reservation form in order to be recognized as a telephone appointment.
All relevant material (including syllabus and assignment sheet as available) must be received by the front desk by 10:00 a.m. on the morning of a telephone appointment. At the appointed time, students will be called on the telephone number they have entered into the e-scheduler.
