Paid Academic Leave is a semester (at full pay) of release time for faculty to pursue professional or academic research projects. The eligible faculty member must describe a deliverable project.
In the academic year 2007-2008, thirty-five leaves are available throughout the University.
In the academic year 2008-2009, fifty leaves are available throughout the University.
Whatever the outcome of an application, applicants should not view it as a statement by the University, School, or department about their overall performance at the school.
1. Eligibility for Paid Academic Leave
Multi-year and grand parented faculty are eligible to apply for full semester paid leaves, provided that they have not received a leave within the last six-year period prior to new application. Before an application is reviewed, the faculty member’s eligibility will be verified. So if you are unsure of your status, please contact your Dean’s Office.
2. Application Process and Deadline: 2007-2009
A. Leave application deadline is April 13th, 2007 if applying for fall 2007 or spring 2008.
Leave application deadline is February 1st , 2008 if applying for fall 2008 or spring 2009.
Applications are available on the website of the Office of the Provost.
B. Notify your department chair of your application.
C. Submit the leave application form to the Office of the Provost electronically in c/o David Ford or Tyrone Gravesande
3. Review and Approval Process
A. The University will review applications and select up to thirty-five eligible part-time faculty with acceptable deliverables for a paid academic leave. The selection will be based on seniority.
4. Faculty Leaves are announced by May 30th , 2007: for fall 07 and spring 08.
A. The Provost informs the award recipients and the Deans of the Board response.
B. Deans notify the appropriate department chairs.
5. Faculty Report upon Returning from Leave.
A. After the leave, the faculty member will submit to the Office of the Provost a written report and evidence of the completed project that the Provost will distribute to the appropriate Dean’s Office.
B. The faculty member may be asked to give a presentation on his/her project for the benefit of other faculty and students. |
