The graduate program in international affairs at
The New School and the U.N. Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean held a conference on Political Crises and Development Alternatives in the Andes: Venezuela, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru and Bolivia.

The 55th annual
Parsons Benefit and Fashion Show was held at the Marriott Marquis-Times Square.

Paul Charron, chairman and CEO of Liz Claiborne, Inc., was the honoree. The event showcased the best of the graduating seniors fashion collections and featured student work under three project themes: Hollywood, Aid to Artisans in Macedonia and Italian Fabrics. The Student Designer of the Year Award was presented to Eri Mikami.

Leonard Lauder, chairman of the Estée Lauder Companies, Inc., gave the second annual Stephan Weiss Lecture in Business Strategy and Negotiation at the W Hotel at Union Square. The lectureship is part of the
Parsons design and management B.B.A. program and is made possible with the generous funding of The Karan-Weiss Foundation. Established by fashion designer and Parsons alumna Donna Karan, the lectureship honors her late husband and business partner, Stephan Weiss.
Eugene Lang College held its Young Writers Conference that brought together writing professionals, outstanding college writers and the broader community of young writers. The conference introduces high school sophomores and juniors to the extraordinary range of media and opportunities in which young writers can work.

Mannes Opera presented two fully-staged performances of Puccinis popular opera
La Bohème. The performance featured young artists of the Mannes Opera and the Mannes Orchestra, which was conducted by Joseph Colaneri, artistic director of the Mannes Opera.
