JUNE 2003

Mannes College of Music held its third annual Mannes Beethoven Institute. The institute explores Beethoven’s sonatas, piano trios and string quartets in a week of intensive study.

The New York Guitar Seminar “East Coast Meets West Coast” was held at Mannes. The five days of intensive study and performance brought together a distinguished faculty of guitar masters and guest speakers from New York and California.

Christopher Hitchens, faculty member in the Graduate Faculty, released a book on Iraq, A Long Short War: The Postponed Liberation of Iraq (Plume Book/Penguin).

Eugene Lang College Visiting Faculty Member Rigoberto González released a new bilingual picture book for children entitled Soledad Sigh-Sighs, Soledad Suspiros (Children’s Book Press, San Francisco).

Jazz Program faculty member Jane Ira Bloom received the 2003 Soprano Saxophone of the Year Award from the Jazz Journalists Association.

Parsons students Hye Jung Choi, Min Jung Ko and Laura Tawes were winners in the Nylon/CK Jeans Denim by Design competition. The winners were featured in the September 2003 issue of the fashion magazine Nylon.
