ACTORS STUDIO DRAMA SCHOOL
Michael Henry Brown was appointed a part-time faculty member in playwriting. Mr. Brown received a 1991 National Endowment for the Arts grant, a Jack Morrison fellowship and a New York Foundation for the Arts playwriting fellowship. As a screenwriter, he is author of the acclaimed
Dead Presidents. Mr. Brown also wrote, co-created and co-produced HBOs Emmy and Ace award-nominated
Laurel Avenue. He earned his M.F.A. from Columbia University in playwriting and theatre.
Marcia Haufrecht was appointed a part-time faculty member in acting. She has appeared on Broadway, off Broadway, and off off Broadway, as well as on television and in film, in roles ranging from Tondeleyo in
White Cargo to Queen Elizabeth opposite Al Pacino in
Richard III. She has performed at Center Stage in Baltimore, Lincoln Center, the Public Theater and La Mama. Most recently, she was seen in the film
Daytrippers and on television in
The Sopranos and
Law & Order.
Barbara McCrane was appointed a part-time faculty member in the Alexander technique. She has taught the Alexander technique at the Juilliard School, the New Jersey Shakespeare Festival, Manhattan School of Music and the 92nd Street Y. She graduated from Hofstra University with a bachelor of arts degree and did postgraduate Alexander work at the Constructive Teaching Centre in London.
Dora Ohrenstein was appointed a part-time faculty member in voice and speech. Ms. Ohrenstein has been a featured solo performer at several Bang on a Can festivals, the North American New Music Festival, and Lincoln Centers Serious Fun! Festival, and she has appeared as guest artist with the Chamber Music Society of Center, the Kronos Quartet and the Brentano Quartet. Her performances on disc include
Urban Diva; Nothing Divine Is Mundane, a recording of Virgil Thomsons songs;
The Complete Songs of Charles Ives and her newest,
Restless Spirit. She received her B.A. from Barnard College and her M.A. from Empire State College.
Joseph Ragno was appointed a part-time faculty member in acting. He has appeared on the Broadway stage in such plays as
The Iceman Cometh and
Spotted Tail in Indians. His off Broadway productions include
Power Failure, written by Larry Gelbart and directed by Arthur Penn. His film credits include
The Shawshank Redemption,
The Babe,
Melvin & Howard and W
here the Buffalo Roam. His television credits include
L.A. Law,
The Commish,
Law & Order,
NYPD Blue,
Crime Story,
The Equalizer,
Seinfeld and
The New Kojak. He holds a B.A. from Allegheny College.
Daniel Singer was appointed a part-time faculty member in the Alexander technique. He is a senior educator on the staff of the American Center for the Alexander Technique teacher certification program, and he helped found the American Society for the Alexander Technique. Mr. Singer is an author of the book
The Sacred Portable Now and co-produced the CD
The Back Alive Advantage. He received his B.A. from the State University of New York at Buffalo, and trained and was certified in London to teach the Alexander technique.
