UNIVERSITY ADMINISTRATION
Kathleen Hobbs Formosa has been appointed director of university liberal studies. Previously, she was associate chair in the design and management program at Parsons School of Design. She is a candidate for a Ph.D. from Rutgers University. Her M.A. is from Rutgers, and she holds a B.A. (with honors) from Marietta College.
John Green has been appointed capital and facilities budget manager in the office of budget and planning. He will coordinate development and implementation of the capital budget and will contribute to planning for funding the Universitys physical plant needs. Mr. Green has 20 years of experience in nonprofit financial management and administration. Most recently, he served as deputy budget director of the New York City Department of Education and as the director of operations for Human Rights Watch. He holds a B.A. from Maryknoll College and an M.A. from Teachers College at Columbia University.
Brian Hoeft joins the University as director of individual giving in the University development office. Mr. Hoeft will work with all of the divisions on annual and major gift fundraising. Prior to his appointment at the University, he was at the Museum of Modern Art, where he served as manager of MoMAs annual fund. Mr. Hoeft also worked with donors at the New York Public Library and supported direct marketing and major gifts cultivation at Harvard College.
Christine Luneau-Lipton was named director of undergraduate foreign languages. Ms. Luneau-Lipton has taught French at The New School since the fall of 1968. In 1997, she became program director of University Liberal Studies, where she was responsible for developing curriculum, selecting books and materials, scheduling classes and hiring and supervising faculty. She holds a baccalauréat philosophie from lUniversité de Versailles.
Eliza Nichols joins the office of the provost as the associate provost. Previously, she had served as associate dean at Eugene Lang College, as well as director of academic affairs at the Graduate Faculty. In her new position, she will oversee faculty appointments, academic policy and academic advising. Before joining New School University, Ms. Nichols was assistant professor of modern languages and literature at the College of William and Mary. Ms. Nichols was educated at Yale University (Ph.D., M.A., M.Phil.) and the University of Pennsylvania (B.A., cum laude).
Jeanne Plecenik was appointed controller. Prior to coming to the University, she served as controller at Mount Saint Mary College in Newburgh, New York, and was the owner of a public accounting firm in Dutchess County. A certified public accountant in New York State, Ms. Plecenik has an undergraduate degree from Pace University and an M.B.A. from Mount Saint Mary College. She began her accounting career at Ernst & Young in New York City. She currently serves as chair of the Eastern Association of College and University Business Officers Financial Review Committee.
Toby Volkman joins the University as vice provost and chief of staff. She brings to the

office of the provost a wealth of experience in academic planning and funding, research support, grant management and foundation relations. She has held major administrative positions at the Social Science Research Council, the Ford Foundation and Columbia University and has considerable experience with support and evaluation of scholarly programs, both national and international. Ms. Volkman was trained as an anthropologist and holds a Ph.D. from Cornell University.
