ACTORS STUDIO DRAMA SCHOOL

Coy Middlebrook

Coy grew up in Northern California, and his interest in the theater began while in high school. He became a choreographer and assistant director for the theater arts department at Chico State University, joining creative forces with a group of talented young artists and founding Chico City Light Opera, a nonprofit theater organization. In 1995, Coy moved to New York and subsequently enrolled in the Actors Studio Drama School, graduating in 2000 with an M.F.A. in directing.

Coy says, “My education at New School University provided me with confidence and specific training to be an active participant in the professional theater industry. There is not a day when I am working that I do not engage with some aspect of my Actors Studio training.”

True to his word, not long after graduation he became the associate director for the highly acclaimed production of Big River for Deaf West Theater, remounted on Broadway with the Roundabout Theater Company. He currently is directing a children’s theater project for The Disney Collection at Music Theatre International, as well as the New York premier of Tennessee Williams’s Spring Storm for Lobo Theatre in May 2004. Coy also has directed main stage productions and readings and developed new work for theater companies including The Actors Studio, The Adobe Theatre Company, Ensemble Studio Theater and the Neighborhood Playhouse. He is a member of the Lincoln Center Directors Lab, Lobo Theatre, Epic Repertory Theatre Company and The Actors Studio.
