The University held
its annual block party on September 7.The block party, held on West
12th Street, included live music performances, art, games, food and
refreshments. |

The Center for New York City Affairs
at the Milano Graduate School offered a series of discussions during
the fall. "Comeback Cities: The Urban Neighborhood Revival" was led
by Harvard University professor Paul Grogan. Other discussions included
"Criminal Justice: The New Mental Health System," "In the Public Interest:
Broadband, Next-Generation Internet Technology and the Nonprofit Sector,"
"Public Education and New Americans," "Immigrants and the Transformation
of Health Care in NYC "and "Immigrants in New York:Impact and Issues." |

Mannes College of
Music faculty member and pianist Vladimir Feltsman
performed Bach's "Well-Tempered Clavier" and presented a master
class as part of the Mannes "Bach 2000" festival. The concert also
inaugurated Mannes 's new Steinway grand piano, a gift from The
Starr Foundation. |

Parsons School of Design and the Fontainebleau
Association of the American Arts School in Fontainebleau, France,
presented "In the Garden," a series of lectures with landscape
architects Ken Smith, Gary Hilderbrand and Michael Van Valkenburgh,
who is the designer of the Vera List Courtyard. |

Richard Bernstein, Chair and Vera List
Professor of Philosophy at the Graduate Faculty, was among 40 internationally
recognized scholars and intellectuals selected to pursue studies at
the Wissenschaftskolleg (Institute for Advanced Study) in Berlin for
the 2000- 2001 academic year. |

The Actors Studio
"Craft Seminar Series" opened with guest Spike Lee. Other
guests in the fall series included Ed Harris, Ben Affleck, Ned Beatty,
Gwyneth Paltrow, Mike Myers, Melanie
Griffith, Helen Hunt and Michael Douglas. |

Victoria Hattam, Associate Professor
of Political Science, was accepted as a member of the prestigious
Institute for Advanced Studies in Princeton, New Jersey, for the 2000-2001
academic year. |
