  • Laura Auricchio is Associate Professor of Art History and Dean of the School of Undergraduate Studies at The New School. She studies and teaches 18th-and 19th-century French and American history, art history, and visual culture as well as contemporary art and gender studies. Her recently published book, The Marquis: Lafayette Reconsidered (Alfred A. Knopf, 2014), offers a biography of the French hero of the American Revolution. Her first book, Adélaïde Labille-Guiard: Artist in the Age of Revolution, was published by the J. Paul Getty Museum in 2009. A frequent lecturer in both academic and museum settings in the United States and around the world, she recently completed two collaborative projects: an exhibition and catalog entitled Royalists to Romantics: Women Artists from the Louvre, Versailles, and Other French National Collections, 1750-1850 (2012), and a co-edited volume, Invaluable Trees: Cultures of Nature, 1660-1830 (2012).
