History of Photography

The purpose of this course is to familiarize each student with the major conceptual, ideological, and cultural issues that have impacted and defined the history of photography from 1839 to the present. Each student will be expected to develop their ability to discuss and identify the major developments of this history with understanding and confidence. This course will place emphasis on the socio-political forces, technological developments, and aesthetic innovations that have determined the trends of photographic theory and production. Open to: Integrated Design and Photography majors; non-majors with permission. Pathway: Visual Studies
