Margo Jefferson, visiting professor of liberal studies, is a cultural critic for the New York Times. A veteran writer whose reviews have appeared in publications like the Village Voice and Newsweek (where she was an editor), she has taught in the drama department at NYU, the English and American literature program at Columbia, and in a variety of writing and journalism programs. A Pulitzer Prize-winner for criticism in 1995, she is currently working on two books: one is an experiment in “cultural autobiography,” combining memoir and cultural criticism; the other, a collection of essays on issues of race, gender, and the hybridization of American culture in the 20th century.
