This seminar reviews attachment theory and research from its origins in the writings of John Bowlby in the 1940s and 1950s, through the era of his collaborative work with Mary Ainsworth and her own seminal contributions to the understanding of attachment in infancy. Specific topics to be covered include the concepts of internal working models, coherence and reflective functioning, attachment disorganization, unresolved mourning and issues concerning the rating and classification of adult attachment interviews from diverse clinical populations.
