Term:
Fall 2009
Subject Code:
GPHI
Course Number:
6629
Hermeneutics and deconstruction have been two of the most influential philosophical movements of the 20th century. In this seminar we begin with a firm grounding in the writings of Gadamer and Derrida, and pursue a number of themes central to both thinkers including language, understanding, misunderstanding, interpretation, practical judgment, responsibility, and decision. Through this we develop a nuanced dialectic between hermeneutics and deconstruction.
