THE WORKSHOP
How much is 390 euro in dollars?
The value of the dollar versus the euro fluctuates. It is best to check with your local bank at the time to see the current value. Currently (January 2008) the dollar is 30 % more than the euro. 390 euros = $507.
What is included in the Workshop price?
That is the price of the two-week workshop. Travel, housing and meals are separate.
Is the workshop taught in English?
Yes. There are Italian translators in each class but the faculty teaches in English.
What is the Workshop schedule?

What are Special Topics Seminars?
Special Topics are specialized subjects taught by our faculty. They range from topics such as “The Art of Improvisation”, Breathing Techniques for Musicians”, “Ear Training” and “Learning to Listen”. These classes give the student and faculty an opportunity to diverge from subjects that are more traditional and explore various aspects of music and musicianship. Special Topics change each year.
What are the prerequisites for attending the workshop? Is it necessary to have a Conservatory diploma or a music degree?
It is not necessary to have a diploma or degree to participate in our workshop.
Are the classes taught in levels?
Students take a theory test the first day to determine their level. Theory is taught in three levels – beginning, intermediate, advanced. Master classes under twenty students are taught together with consideration given to the varying levels. Students are also given a performances evaluation for placement in combos. Special Topics are selected by the student and are open to all.
How many students are in each class?
The classes have an average of 8 to 10 students. All students attend the Special Topics and Theory classes. Vocalists work on repertoire and technique with two vocal teachers. Master classes are instrument specific.

Who are the faculty?
The faculty is all performing New York musicians teaching at The New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music in New York City.
HOTELS AND LODGING
Is housing provided?
No. Students may choose from several local hotels and student hostel in Bassano del Grappa. It is recommended for students to stay in Bassano for easy access to the workshop and related evening events.
Do the hotels and restaurants offer discounts to students attending the workshop?
Certain hotels and restaurants in Bassano del Grappa offer discounted prices to individuals attending the workshop. In the HOTELS section on the Veneto website (www.venetojazz.com), you will find hotels, phone numbers, addresses as well as some prices. In order to receive restaurant discounts, students must show their pass, which will be distributed on the first day of the workshop.
REGISTRATION
How do I register?
Complete the Registration Form and send it with your payment before June 23, 2008 to Veneto Jazz, Via Corriva 10 - 31030 Cavasagra di Vedelago (TV) - Italy. Include 2 I.D. photos. You can also register by email. Send the Registration Form found on the website, www.venetojazz.com at the "Workshop 2008" page. Along with the Registration Form, send a copy of the payment receipt and 2 I.D. digital photos.
What is the cost?
The Workshop registration fee is 440 euros. If you register before May 15th, the fee will be 390 euros (approximately $507.00). The registration fee covers the workshop only. It does not include personal accommodations, food or travel. Registration is not complete until the fees are paid.
How do I pay?
By postal money order to: Veneto Jazz, Via Corriva 10 - 31030 Cavasagra di Vedelago (TV) - Italy.

Please make sure to include your full name and instrument on all paperwork.
All bank charges are the responsibility of the registrant.
What if I need to cancel?
Full reimbursement will be given for cancellations received before May 26. Partial reimbursement after that date is at the discretion of the Veneto Jazz.
Are there any group discounts?
For every five registered students, VenetoJazz is offering a scholarship for the sixth person. This scholarship can also be applied and divided among the six individuals attending, reducing the workshop fee for the entire group. Please contact Babi at Babi@VenetoJazz.com. to make group arrangements.
Will I be comfortable if I am a new player?
Yes, the workshop has players of all levels. Basic knowledge and understanding of jazz is required.
Are there scholarships available?
No, scholarships are not available for the workshop fee.
Do you have to be a New School Jazz student to attend?
No, all jazz musicians are welcome to attend.
What is the age range of the students who attend?
The age range is from 17 on with the majority of students are between 17- 26.
Is there an audition to get in?
No audition is required. All students are accepted to the Workshop.
Will I receive a certificate for my participation in the workshop?
A certificate of participation is awarded to every student who participates in the workshop (minimum one week). The President of Veneto Jazz, the Coordinator of The New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music as well as the Cultural Director of the city of Bassano del Grappa signs the certificate.
Are there classes on the weekend?
No, lessons are held Monday to Friday, from 10 am to 5pm.
Can I just come for the New School audition?
Yes. The audition is free for participants of the Workshop and 50 euro for non-participants. Please contact Teri Lucas at Lucast@newschool.edu before the Workshop to discuss the audition, requirements and admission to the New School. Audition requirements are on the VenetoJazz website at www.VenetoJazz.com.
Can I attend for just one week?
Yes, it is possible to attend for only one week though it is strongly suggested that you attend both weeks.
Is it possible to audit the Workshop?
No, it is not possible.
NEW SCHOOL SCHOLARSHIP -EUROPEAN AUDITIONS
How can I be considered for the Special Half- Scholarship offered by New School University?
Every registered student will be considered for the scholarship. The Half-Tuition scholarship is available only to students attending the workshop.

DIRECTIONS
How do I get to Bassano del Grappa?
Outside of Italy, the best way is to fly to Venice and take the train to Bassano del Grappa (about 1 ½ hours). The train station is in the center of town with hotels easily accessible by walking or taxi.
From the Marco Polo Airport, Venice: The airport is linked to the nearby railway stations of Mestre-Venezia and Venezia-Santa Lucia. The airport also offers bus service provided by ATVO FLY BUS and ACTV (line #15) More information can be found on the website www.veniceairport.com. Both railway stations are well linked to Bassano del Grappa, with direct trains. For more train information, please check the website www.trenitalia.com.
From Milano (recommended route): after the A4 exit of Vicenza Est, take the Valdastico (A31); continue north to the exit of Dueville. Exit and follow the indications for Bassano, about 20 km.
From Bologna (recommended route): exit Padova Ouvest, follow the road SS47 (you will pass through Limena, Curtarolo, Cittadella--stay on the road and follow indications for Bassano)
